How we write
Who writes the guides
Smarter Paws Academy’s guides are written by our team under one pen name, Sandie Calloway. There is no single author behind the name, and no photo of one. The name is the byline for the team’s work, so you always know where a guide comes from.
How a guide is made
Each draft is written with AI help. Each guide is checked against named veterinary and academic sources, linked in the guide, and anything they don’t support is cut. Older guides are being brought up to this standard; the Updated date at the top shows when a guide was last checked. Health and nutrition guides get a second check before they go live. When a problem needs someone who can see your dog, we say so and point you to your vet or a qualified behavior professional.
What we teach
Rewards, never force, fear or pain. We reward the behavior we want, set up the situation so the wrong one is less likely, and never use pain, fear or intimidation to stop a dog.
Pictures
The pictures on this site are AI-generated illustrations, unless a caption credits a photographer or a source. They show a situation, not a real dog or person.
Credentials
There is no certified trainer on our staff, so we do not claim one. Instead, every guide links to its sources, so you can read what the research and the veterinary bodies say for yourself. Our guides are for education and do not replace your veterinarian.
Affiliate links
Some guides link to products. If you buy through one of those links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The full note is on our affiliate disclosure page.
Corrections
If you find a mistake in a guide, tell us through the contact page. We fix it, and the “Updated” date at the top of the guide changes.
